December 2022 Automotive Electronics Tier 1 Supplier Project Duration: 9 months

Project Summary

In December 2022, Etamicro formally signed a PEPS System Development Contract with a leading domestic automotive electronics Tier 1 supplier. The project development cycle was 9 months. Etamicro, as the entrusted party, undertook the full-stack R&D of PEPS system software and hardware, as well as system calibration work.

Project Background: Smart Cockpit Acceleration Drives PEPS Demand Surge

With the acceleration of automotive intelligence, PEPS (Passive Entry Passive Start, keyless entry and start system) has become standard configuration for mainstream passenger vehicles. Compared with traditional remote key fobs, PEPS achieves intelligent sensing within 0.8-1.5 meters through Low Frequency (LF) antennas. Car owners don't need to operate actively—the door unlocks automatically when approaching, and the engine starts by pressing the start button after entering the vehicle, greatly improving driving convenience and quality.

A leading domestic automotive electronics Tier 1 supplier has long specialized in vehicle electronic control system R&D and mass production supporting, with deep accumulation in core fields such as Smart Cockpit and Control. With the rapid growth of PEPS function deployment demand from downstream customer models, the supplier decided to introduce external professional partners to complete the PEPS system R&D work together, in order to shorten the development cycle and accelerate product launch.

Why Choose Etamicro

Etamicro deeply cultivates the automotive intelligent electronics field and has a professional team with both solution design and original FAE support capabilities. During the technical evaluation and business negotiation process of this project, Etamicro won customer recognition with the following core advantages:

  • Rich mass production project experience in LF/RF wireless communication and automotive MCU selection
  • Deep mastery of RSSI field strength calibration methods, ensuring unlocking consistency in multi-antenna scenarios
  • Established first-level cooperative relationships with mainstream automotive IC original manufacturers such as HALO Microchip (HALO), NXP, and Infineon, ensuring component supply chain stability
  • Complete delivery capabilities from schematic design, firmware development to vehicle integration verification
  • Suzhou headquarters + Shanghai support, high response efficiency, able to work closely with customer R&D team

Project Deliverables

This cooperation covers the full-link delivery of PEPS system R&D, specifically including four major modules:

I. Software Development

Covering embedded firmware development for PEPS host controller and remote key fob, including Low Frequency (LF) wake-up and search logic, High Frequency (RF) bidirectional communication protocol, RSSI authentication algorithms, anti-relay attack mechanisms, and complete software strategy documentation system.

II. Hardware Development

Complete PCB hardware design for PEPS host controller and remote key fob, including antenna drive circuit, LF/RF transceiver module selection and integration, output complete schematics, BOM, PCB Gerber files and hardware specification documents, supporting direct connection to SMT mass production process.

III. System Calibration

Develop a complete set of RSSI field strength calibration methods and calibration tools, covering signal boundary delineation in multi-antenna areas such as doors, trunk, and interior, ensuring unlocking sensitivity and false trigger rate meet automotive testing requirements, and output calibration operation manual.

IV. Training & Support

After project acceptance, Etamicro provides systematic training and on-site support for customers, including software/hardware deliverable training, calibration operation training and online remote Q&A, ensuring the customer team can independently conduct subsequent maintenance and derivative development.

Project Significance

This project is a landmark case completed by Etamicro in the automotive intelligent entry system field. Through deep cooperation with leading Tier 1 suppliers, Etamicro further verified its technical delivery capability transforming from "Agent / Distributor" to "Solution Provider", accumulating a complete set of system-level R&D experience including PEPS multi-antenna field strength calibration, LF/RF protocol stack development, and vehicle integration verification.

With the accelerated landing of new-generation entry technologies such as UWB Digital Key and Bluetooth Key, Etamicro will continue to deeply cultivate intelligent entry and Control directions, providing integrated technical services from chip selection to system delivery for more automotive electronics Tier 1 and vehicle customers.
